The following categories describe the current status of the Record Centres in Scotland.
The table below contains details for each Record Centre and its current status.
LRC managed in partnership with SNH and/or neighbouring local authorities and other partners. Resources committed by partners for LRC staff. Development plans / business plans in place or in process of being written. Products and services to users either being delivered or work aimed at developing LRC capacity to deliver them planned.
LRC under developmentDevelopment plan for LRC establishment written with input from key partners. Resources for establishment of LRC secured for at least one year of establishment / development.
Centres for biological recording (record collections)Centres holding computerised data and with sufficient resources only to input data reactively and to provide limited support for recorders and some reactive information products. No partnership of key data users yet established and no development plans / business plans in place to direct further development work.
Planned Local Records CentresDevelopment plan for LRC establishment written with input from key partners. Resources for establishment of LRC not yet secured.
Currently inactive Local Records CentresCentres with data held in computerised systems but with no resources currently allocated to data management and not providing any products or services and not inputting any data.
Centres providing limited products and services and/or covering sub-local authority areasCentres that are unlikely to secure sufficient resources to achieve the level of activity indicated in the BRISC LRC business model due to the low number of potential partners. These centres may constitute satellites of LRCs (holding copies of data, providing local access to data, liaising with recorders, collecting and inputting data).
